2018

Greetings from Melbourne! It's been cold here since I arrived, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 11 degrees each day. It's great walking around the city in this chilly weather, but still, the sun here is mightily shining that my skin would still feel a bit burned despite the fact that it's the beginning of the winter season.

Which is why I got inspired today to write about Kojie San's Sun Patrol, their new collection of sunscreen products; they're new to me! This Melbourne experience goes to show that no matter the weather, the sun's still out there and UV rays will always find a way to affect your skin so you need your own sun patrol!

When everyone's raving about Miniso's toners, mirrors, and makeup, I can only rave about one thing with the brand; the moment I tried it, I had to get more. The thing is, I am not alone; a lot love it too and I find myself scouring different Miniso branches just to restock just because it's always out of stock in major Miniso branches.

What's this product I'm talking about?

I just went on a major shopping spree lately to prepare for my upcoming Melbourne-Brisbane honeymoon trip! It's also been a while since I shopped for new clothes. Melbourne and Brisbane are currently having below 20 degrees weather for the whole of May and early weeks of June. I realized, I don't have enough cold weather clothing, hence the purchase!

I also bought a couple more stuff for travel plus a few more things to add to my closet.

Good thing H&M is on sale! I picked up the following: Light peach pajama, royal blue pullover, and white knit pull over which is oversized yet extremely fashionable; just what I want!

Nights are definitely colder so I bought a set of Minnie Mouse pajama at SM. I think I'll be needing one more long- sleeved nightie top for my 18-day stay!

Uniqlo Heattech leggings and long- sleeves. Thermal wear is essential because it's the closest to the body and prevents heat from escaping. Heattech is not exactly affordable, but definitely more affordable than Marks and Spencers, which is another brand of popular thermal wear locally.

Some additions to my closet: long socks for my leather boots, hoops from SM Accessories (I'm digging this accessory again!) Miniso ultra seamless underwear, which is my favorite, Sogo reusable and disposable nipple tapes, and bra extenders for the H&M strapless balcony bra I bought.

I'll be hiking in Melbourne so I bought Merrell Capra Rapid, an affordable hiking shoe that is not only great for dry hikes, but for muddy, water trails as well; there are a lot of good reviews on this shoe so I chose it. I also picked up a pair of slip-ons from Forever 21; these will look great with almost anything plus it's on sale!

Finally, Go Pro Hero 5! I've been meaning to purchase a new action cam; my previous one, Supremo 1 is okay, but the accessories have failed and there have been some glitches with the system. I hope this time, I made the right decision with Go Pro Hero 5!

Excited for my trip this Friday! Can't wait to share my adventures with you!

If there's one thing that I want to be really, really sure about, it's that I want the expensive makeup that I will purchase be good...no, make that great. Because money doesn't grow on trees!

I've had my fair share of purchasing 'meh' expensive makeup and to spare you all from the heartache, I am sharing with you 10 no regrets, expensive makeup products that are worth every penny from your salary or savings; this is also a great list to refer to if you are going to splurge on your first expensive makeup. To prove how worth it these products are, I've already hit pan or used 1-5 of these already!

1. KAT VON D SHADE AND LIGHT CONTOUR PALETTE

- I normally don't hit pan on contouring palettes just because I have a lot of contouring products, except this one. I really love all the contouring shades in this palette plus the highlighting powders are great for under eye use as well. I thought I won't be able to hit pan on this, not even in two years, but surprise! I've hit pan on two pans in the palette already after just one year! I use it all the time!

Careline Graph-Ink Liner and Best Brow Liner review.

PRICE: Liner- P170.00; Brow Liner- P160.00
FROM: Watsons, SM Megamall
OTHER LOCATIONS: Available in leading department stores, drugstores, and supermarkets

THE VERDICT:

Careline is one of the brand's that impressed me last year because of the significant revamp, from the look down to the quality of the products. To be honest, I've always thought of it as a "kiddie" makeup brand that's why I've never given it much thought until their products became cooler, better, and much more pigmented.

My faves from the new Careline are the liquid lipsticks and these two products that I've tried recently: Graph-Ink Liner and Best Brow Liner; long- wearing products that make your eyes pop and brow stand out.

Tomorrow's the day! All the sleepless nights I've spent organizing our much- awaited anniversary is finally happening and I am super excited, but sad at the same time. Excited because I'll see again my long- time readers and at the same time, new members of the pack, and sad because we only have four hours to celebrate and a year before it happens again!

But there will be more anniversary parties to come so let's all look forward to that! Today let's talk about foundations that will withstand walwal moments! Thanks Charisse for the question!

Ms. Martha,
I have yellowish skin; not too fair, not too morena. Please help me find a foundation for walwal or malling. I can't find the best foundation that matches my skin tone. Help!
Charisse

Hi Charisse!

Thanks for the question. You have three questions here: foundation reco for malling, for walwal, and finding foundation that matches your skin tone.

Walwal sounds good to me so here are walwal- tested foundations that can take you from sun up to sun dow, from booze to coffee. To my foreign readers here, 'walwal' loosely translates to the phrase "excessive partying"in modern Filipino language.

Here are my favorite six from the spend and save category.

From the queen of cheeky makeup, The Balm, comes Highlite N Con Tour and Girls Getaway Palette, complexion palettes that will give you that year- round sexy, summer glow. Imagic 16 Color Eyeshadow Palette review.

PRICE: P2,000.00
FROM: Free
OTHER LOCATIONS: Available at Glambox Studio and beautymnl.com

THE VERDICT:

Imagic is one of the hidden gems in online beauty stores. I've used a couple of Imagic items and most of them, I like, specifically the cream color palette which I loved using in my avant garde makeup looks.

I recently received their new 16 color eyeshadow palette. The holographic palette is unmistakable and the moment I opened it, I immediately thought of Huda Beauty's Rose Gold palette; it's a good close dupe in terms of colors!

In the age of inclusivity, a lot find it disappointing when brands stick to their old palette, especially when coming up with new foundation products or shades. Thankfully a lot of brands are finally diversifying their foundation shade selections so everyone can find their one, true fit. However, shade inclusivity is often seen in luxury foundation brands and locally, we have yet to see inclusivity in drugstore/department store beauty brands.

But one brand is stepping up to the challenge; Pink Sugar, one of my favorite affordable, Filipino beauty brands is going that inclusivity route with the launch of their two new shades of Our Lil' Secret All Day Coverage Foundation that are perfect for golden girls and deep- skinned ladies!

Here's a review on Real Techniques Makeup Sponge.

PRICE: P480.00
FROM: Watsons, SM Megamall
OTHER LOCATIONS: Available in Watsons and SM Department Stores

THE VERDICT:

I'm way too late in the game, but heck, I still want to know why Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is one of the cult favorite makeup sponge products along with Beauty Blender.

So while waiting for a meeting to start, I wandered around SM Megamall and found myself in no less than Watsons. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge caught my eye and without batting an eyelash, I picked it up and paid for it; high time that I find out what the hype is for.

After a week of usage, I can say that I'm so thankful that I found myself in Watsons that day and picked up this sponge; the buzz is real, this is a really affordable and really good sponge!

Guerlain Mon Guerlain Eau De Parfum Florale review

PRICE: Starts at P4,000.00+
FROM: Free
OTHER LOCATIONS: Available in Rustans department stores; Guerlain Greenbelt 5

THE VERDICT:

When I grow up, I wanna be Angelina Jolie.

I admired her the first time I saw her because of her bright blue eyes, sensual face, and strong yet feminine features; there's something seemingly rebellious yet kind with her beauty. I still admire her up to this day and even more so when I learned that she is heavily invested in humanitarian missions and efforts across the world, particularly in Asia. I know there have been polarizing news about her, but with that face and heart of gold, I just can't seem to dislike her. And when I learned that one of my favorite luxury brands has partnered with Angelina and released a fragrance inspired by her, you can bet that I'm one of the first people who was ecstatic about it!

THE VERDICT:

I fancy organic makeup once in a while because I feel that it gives my skin a breather from all the synthetics. My problem with organic makeup is most of the time, they're mediocre and don't work the way I expected them too.

Lately, I discovered Ms. Jane, a makeup range by Neutra Organics. I was pretty impressed by the range and I'm sharing the cool ones that you should try today or in case you are looking for organic makeup to try.

Like most of you, I have watched and read a handful of reviews on Nadine Lustre's much- awaited and controversial makeup collection, Lustrous. And like most of you, I've had pre-conceived notions about the product which almost drove me to conclude not to spend time acquiring and reviewing the product, but then again experience taught me to never arrive at a conclusion without trying. After all, a good Beauty Blogger will try first then review.

'Tis the season to sweaty because it's officially summer in the Philippines! Last Wednesday, the temperature hit 41 degrees! It's also the season to be oily; I don't know 'bout you, but my skin's so oily lately that's why I've been abusing my clay masks!

Perfumes are always aspirational; they're always patterned either after a persona, a celebrity, or a certain disposition in life. While it's great to be promised these aspirations that will bring out the best in you, take you on a different level, and put you in a different light, sometimes, you just want a scent that simply describes YOU; all your sensibilities, your passions, and all things that are essential to you.

I believe we are now in a time where beauty is becoming more and more personal, hence niche brands with curated offerings and sans heavy tones of commercialism are on the rise like Commodity, a luxury lifestyle beauty brand that's apparently taking Sephora by storm since its launch in 2015.

Kanebo Luster Cream Foundation Ochre 5 and Intense Crayon Rouge 06 Stylish Bordeaux review.

PRICE: Foundation- P7,200.00; Intense Crayon Rouge- P3,000+
FROM: Free
OTHER LOCATIONS: Available in all Rustans department stores

THE VERDICT:

After trying out these precious makeup items from Kanebo, I learned two things:

1. Kanebo is a luxury Japanese beauty brand (Yeah, just found out about this lately)
2. Kanebo Luster Cream Foundation is seriously expensive, but seriously good.

I'll be honest with you; I freaked out when I learned about the SRP of the foundation and immediately had reservations about it, but when I tried it, I realized that cream foundation can indeed be soft, luminous, and skin like while still retaining its precious full coverage!
